Ellen Barkin fears for Scarlett’s looks

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

To be honest beauty surgery is like a personal opinion: to each his own.

Ellen BarkinThe 53-year-old actress Ellen Barkin is alarmed after she keeps on hearing stories of today’s actors’ fearlessness to go under the knife, in order to preserve their young appearance. In Hollywood, going for your favourite beauty surgeons is like shopping for your favourite hair conditioner, a sight that has become a trend and familiar.
She specifically mentioned Scarlett, who a month ago declared that she doesn’t have any qualms opting for surgery if she feels too old and wrinkly.

Ellen, who is going to appear in the upcoming “Ocean’s Thirteen,” thinks otherwise.

Unlike some of her peers, though, Barkin says she’s never had plastic surgery and never will. “I don’t have a political problem with it, I just don’t want to look crazy! Would I rather look the way I looked when I was 43? Yes. 33? No. I always thought women peaked between 36 and 43. Something happens to your face and everything just settles in. I look at that gorgeous little Scarlett Johansson and I think, ‘Oh, my God, what is that girl going to look like when she’s a woman?!”

The Jewish-American actress made news last year when she sold the jewelries she got from her second husband, the billionaire cosmetics mogul Ronald Perelman, saying instead of making her remember the good and bad times and in turn hurt her it would be better to dispose them and start a new life. Feminists embraced her action and she has become their new idol.

Scarlett and Louis Vuitton redux

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

One of the perks being a celebrity is that you get a free swag after you have campaigned for a certain brand.

Do you still remember this photo of Scarlett’s taken last year for her first Louis Vuitton campaign?
Is that for free, Scarlett?

How about the next one taken a couple of months ago in Miami when she was trying hard not to be photographed by the paparazzi?
Is that for free, Scarlett?

Jealous, ladies?

Naturally, it is no wonder if one or two of the products she represents now will be hers in the next sightings.

For the second time, honchos at the Louis Vuitton chose her for the new LV ad autumn campaign, which features ready-to-wear designs and leather items, and slated to hit the magazine pages this August.
An evocative Scarlett for the new LV ad campaign
The ad campaign was shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott in Los Angeles in late March. Some shots will be published in the upcoming ish of Pop magazine.

Don’t ask me for style but according to press releases, the theme is movie star “evoking at turns Marilyn Monroe and Grace Kelly.”

Antoine Arnault said: “It’s a very iconic campaign.” Based on the sample photos, the colours are dark and earthy.

According to analysts, Louis Vuitton “spends more than $250 million annually on advertising, most of it print-driven.”

Scarlett quote: On being responsible

Monday, May 28th, 2007

Scarlett and her fierce eyebrow

“I’m very responsible when I’m working. I’ve just been doing it for a long time, and I’m not the kind of person who is going to show up to work three hours late, or maybe not come at all. That’s just not who I am.

That just has to do with the fact that I understand that everybody else comes to work, and we would all like to get an extra four hours of sleep, but what can you do?”…“But [outside of work] I don’t really have any responsibility right now. It’s not like I have kids.

I’m not raising a younger sibling. I’m not supporting anybody financially. But at the same time, I can take care of myself. My mother may disagree. Of course, moms always do: [imitates her mother] “My baby, you’re just a child….”

Scarlett goes indie?

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

Scarlett everywhere

Is Scarlett keen on befriending the who’s who in indie rock scene? If she does, does it have anything to do with her upcoming album?
With the latest buzz circling around her portrayal as Mary Queen of Scots, the account wherein the actress was seen hanging out with TV on the Radio producer and member David Andrew Sitek at the Hotel Congress is definitely something worth to mention.
The New York City band made names through their collaboration with different musicians like David Bowie, Massive Attack and the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs.
According to Tucson Scene, a site that brings the latest news in the local music scene, onlookers found the two “dancing at ’80s night in the dance club section of the hotel though nobody seemed to notice.” And then later they “took in some diner food at Grill on Congress St.”
Curious ones took a note of the actress wearing a tan hat (” ‘like a bowler hat almost but more straw like. And I think she was wearing shorts. She really fit into the grill atmosphere.’ “)
Was it same hat she wore during her Coachella Festival’s appearance?
The spy’s music site also mentioned that her hair was “pulled back in a ponytail” and caught wearing “big glasses.” The witness specifically mentioned there was “no mistaking that nose.”
There are some people who are speculating that the actress, like the others in Hollywood, has her nose and breasts done.
It isn’t confirmed yet if it was truly Scarlett or her doppelganger who was seen partying with the indie star.
Her current boyfriend Ryan Reynolds is back in filming “Fireflies in the Garden” with Julia Roberts in Texas. Scarlett and Ryan were spotted in Los Angeles early last week.

Scarlett’s Leading Man: Topher Grace

Monday, May 21st, 2007

Topher Grace
Topher Grace was born in New York but grew up in Connecticut. He bears an uncanny nickname for someone whose name is Christopher.

I was actually a Chris until prep school. But my parents didn’t realize that Chris Grace sounds kind of a weird when you say the names together. And, as you know, you can never get people to call you Christopher. Americans are so lazy. They won’t even say your full name. I’d be like, “Hi my name is Christopher,” and they’d say, “Hi Chris,” and I’d be like, “No Chris-TO-PHER.”

I’ve heard people say it’s preppy. But I had never met a Topher before. I did it to be a wise a–. I do love irony, probably more than I should. I practice it in my professional and personal life.

He is also the shy leading man of Scarlett in the movie “In Good Company.” In it he played Carter, a reluctant yet ambitious manager who doesn’t know what to do with his life. Though the romance between Scarlett and Topher was featured only half of the movie, it awfully tackled the reality of a hostile corprate environment where employees are reduced or laid off on the behest of the owners. Topher was also the naive boss of Scarlett’s father, played by Dennis Quaid, after the company shakeoff. It became sinister when he fell in love with Scarlett much to the anger of her disappointed father.
It is gonna be one of those films that you can’t ignore playing during the weekends. The movie came out in 2004.
Many will remember Topher as this pencil-thin oversexed but sweet teenager Eric Forman from “That 70s Show,” which coincindentally catapulted Ashton Kutcher’s career.
The 28-year-old actor from New York saw the inevitability of a huge break in Hollywood. He didn’t renew his contract to continue “That 70s Show” to be able to play Eddie Brock/Venom in the latest “Spiderman.”

I was a huge fan - not just of Spider-Man but of Todd McFarlane, who was the illustrator when I was 12, 13, at the time of the origin of Venom. So not only did I love Spider-Man and Peter Parker, but on top of it, I was there for the birth of that character. So I had this meeting at Sony, and all of a sudden Sam Raimi’s in the room, and then [producer] Laura Ziskin’s in the room, and [producer] Avi Arad, and they’re starting to tell me the plot of Spider-Man 3, and I’m thinking, “Where is this going?” And then when they told me they wanted me to play Venom, I had to bite my tongue so I had some negotiating power.
We went to Comic-Con and they had a trailer there that I hadn’t seen, and I was geeking out about it backstage. I mean, that would be a cool moment in my life if I weren’t on the screen. And it’s me! It’s blowing my mind. It’s some of the coolest stuff I’ve ever seen in film, and I’m a real cinephile.

So the next time you see Topher, say hi. Because this kid will make it bigger in Hollywood.

Scarlett as the ill-fated Scottish queen

Saturday, May 19th, 2007

Mary StuartIt is now officially announced that Scarlett will be in another historical film portraying one of the best-known Scottish monarchs, Mary Queen of Scots.

International Herald Tribune reported that “the deal was announced Thursday by production company Relativity Media at the Cannes Film Festival.”

It will be directed by James Curran of “The Painted Veil” fame and a screenplay by Jimmy McGovern of the UK TV crime drama “Cracker.”

The producers said the film would see Mary “battle political enemies, scheming allies, and affairs of the heart in her quest to reunite the warring tribes of her native Scotland.”

One of the producers is Scarlett’s mom, Melanie. The story of the ill-fated Mary was so colourful, chaotic and tragic that the actress will find lots of room to make it more challenging.

Would she hire a speech and language coach to prepare her to speak with Scottish accent? Mel Gibson did just that. Some people found his Scottish accent in “Braveheart” awkward and artificial. In the end, he won several accolades for the role.

The Roman Catholic Mary Stuart who ruled Scotland from 1542 to 1567 was married three times. At the age of 5 was bethroted to the French Dauphin, Francois, making her as one of the daughters-in-law of the cunning Catherine de Medici.

Mary wasn’t lucky in love. Either her consort was childish or hostile. But both were very much into her throne and obtaining power. It was said that she masterminded the murder of her second husband. Her third husband even kidnapped her for forced marriage.

She was born between the warring factions in Scotland and reigned at the time of religious wars. Though many people believed that she was the rightful queen of England, her shaky relationship with her Protestant cousin, Elizabeth I, paved the way for her downfall. Accused of treason, “Mary was implicated in several plots to assassinate Elizabeth, raise the Catholic North of England, and put herself on the throne, possibly with French or Spanish help. The major plot for the political takeover was the Babington Plot, but some of Mary’s supporters believed it and other plots to be either fictitious or undertaken without Mary’s knowledge.” Elizabeth, without hearing any of it, allowed Mary to be beheaded at the age of 42.

I am excited to see who would be the other actors beside Scarlett.

Scarlett’s 2002 interview

Thursday, May 17th, 2007

Digging the goodness of YouTube.com, I have found this early interview of a then 17-year-old Scarlett when she was promoting “Eight-Legged Freaks.” One of the films that I am pretty sure Scarlett would not remember once she gets much older and aims for more serious directors and projects. Dubbed as a B-movie, she discussed her encounter with a cockroach when asked by her host if she ever had an arachnophobia and her impression of Billy Bob Thornton.
Noticeably Scarlett was a redhead here. This was a year before her second breakthrough, “Lost in Translation.”

If anyone knows the name of the show and the host, I am inviting you to share the info with me.

Update: The guy who posted the interview video replied that it was culled from “The Late, Late Show” hosted by none other than the comedian Craig Kilborn.

Scarlett-Ryan saga continues

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

Ryan ReynoldsDo things really start to heat up between Scarlett and her current flavour of the moment Ryan Reynolds?
Until now I can’t picture that the two are really an item.
According to People, the two were seen “back in action” Monday night, enjoying the show of indie rock band The Damnwells at the Troubadour in West Hollywood.
They were seen arriving separately and greeting each other “with a hug and a kiss on the lips.”

“In the foyer they were talking and had their hands all over each other,” says the source. “He kissed her a couple more times in the club. He was totally sweet. She went to the restroom and he went to check up on her.”
The pair watched the show with the rest of the crowd, although the witness says fellow concertgoers recognized them: “You can’t help but recognize him because he’s tall. She had a hat on and was so tiny.”
After the show, they hung out at the club for a while before they called it a night – after Reynolds poked his head outside to check for paparazzi–and left, hand in hand.

Ryan is filming “Fireflies in the Garden” with Julia Roberts and Willem Defoe. While Scarlett confessed to People that she prefers a man with strong self-confidence regardless of his physical appearance.
“One thing that I look for that isn’t physical is a healthy confidence. If somebody is confident in a way that you would admire - being strong, funny–that can make someone you might not be initially attracted to more attractive.”
Hmm, seems like Ryan got what it takes to be her man if it is true that the couple is getting cosier each day.
They have been reportedly dating early in March. The actor was single for more than half a year after he broke off his engagement with singer Alanis Morissette. Scarlett insisted that she is couple-less via a Glamour article last month.
The duo was seen first cuddling during Easter and then in New York City where they spent a busy weekend “getting close at the Manhattan restaurant Odeon.”
One witnessed quipped, “They were in a good mood.”

Scarlett was seen crying

Tuesday, May 15th, 2007

Scarlett at the Met MuseumRumours are circulating that Scarlett was spotted crying on Stella McCartney’s shoulders during the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s gala, a tribute to Belle epoque French designer Paul Poiret, last week.

A source told the New York Daily News newspaper: “She was crying to Stella - not hysterical, confused. It was about 10.30 pm, after Jennifer Hudson performed. They walked back from the bathroom together.” Source

However, the reason is unknown. Witnesses said that Scarlett and Stella chatted until the latter was ready to dry her eyes and rejoin the party. Though the actress’ ex, Josh Hartnett, was also there, I don’t think he caused her sadness. Josh is now enjoying the company of Spanish actress Penelope Cruz.
Stella designed the actress’ mini cocktail dress on top of a black bolero. Scarlett was seen chummy with supermodel Amber Valletta.

No Pompeii for Scarlett

Monday, May 14th, 2007

Scarlett
Contrary to earlier reports, Scarlett Fan.com was informed by the actress’ publicist that Scarlett isn’t going to be in Roman Polanski’s filming of Pompeii, based on the best-selling novel with the same name written by Robert Harris. The story will “revolve around events that took place just prior to the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in A.D. 79.which casts Orlando Bloom,” Cinematical said. Mr. Bloom as we all know is not at all stranger to historical films and so is Scarlett.
However, due to conflict of skeds, both actors though heavily considered, cannot join the project. Scarlett’s shooting of “Mary Queen of Scots” has been postponed. Instead she is gonna be in Barcelona and Asturias in July to join Woody Allen for his “Spanish Project.”
And next month she is due to record her long-waited album.

Program Interruption

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

Just a quick note.
The presence of my son sick in bed and crying for my attention will be the reason of “no fresh entries” this week. I will try to be back on Thursday, or Friday, depending on the situation.
Thanks and please stay tuned.

Pam Anderson wants to see Scarlett naked

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

Pamela AndersonFormer “Baywatch” babe Pamela Anderson gave Scarlett an advice: Go pose for Playboy, girly!
I am not sure what prompted her to say it but I guess she is curious how does the most voted woman fare when it comes to sexy body looks. According to OK magazine, she admitted that she would like to see Scarlett shed her clothes for Hugh Hefner’s magazine.

“Scarlett Johansson would definitely be my number one choice. But I doubt she would agree to do it. On the other hand it’s kind of cool to be on the cover of Playboy, but on the other hand, for many actresses, it’s not at all.”

It might hold true to American-based stars but I know that in Europe, say in Germany and Austria, some actresses don’t have any qualms posing nude for Playboy. But knowing that Scarlett already included a no-nudity clause for movies, unless acting without clothes is necessary for the movie, Pam would just be disappointed.
The busty Baywatch star has posed for the magazine a record of 12 times. She believes that Scarlett has what it takes to be Playboy head honcho’s latest golden girl.
Male fans would probably agree.

Scarlett hosted Louis Vuitton show

Monday, May 7th, 2007

Scarlett in Louis VuittonAfter garnering mixed reactions during the first day of Coachella Festival on April 27, Scarlett ended this week hosting a gala with Daniel Lalonde, the president and CEO of Louis Vuitton North America.
She was also spotted hobnobbing with the 27-year-old Antoine Arnault, son of LVMH chairman Bernard Arnault, who is also a member of the luxury giant’s board and the director of communications, in charge of advertising, books and the Louis Vuitton Cup, plus coordination of LV’s website.
Aside from Scarlett and the LV bigwigs, other stars who came in to celebrate LV’s new “LoVe” collection at the Fifth Avenue store in New York included REM’s Michael Stipe, Alex Kingston, Mya, among others.
She was caught wearing a metallic pink and bluish Louis Vuitton corset-inspired top and pleaded skirt combining them with silver pumps, red-orange earrings and ring and a barrette with the same colour that parted her platinum blonde hair on the right completing her look.
If you can still remember the famous brand chose Scarlett to carry its products and has been assigned to be LV’s official face ever since last year.
No wonder that the actress really took it to heart. The 22-year-old actress revealed: “If you go to a glamorous event, you should look glamorous.”
The Thursday’s gala is “to give a boost to the Louis Vuitton Love Party in aid of Oxfam.” The actress has become increasingly involved with the charity. Earlier this year she took advantage of a break from making movies to visit India and Sri Lanka with the organisation to meet tsunami survivors and see for herself what conditions were like.
Though she might look having a break, Hello said that she is due back in front of the cameras soon with director Woody Allen to film his next big screen offering, “Midnight In Barcelona,” this summer.

‘The Other Boleyn’ behind the scene pictures

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

Everyone is still talking about Scarlett’s performance in her recent Coachella appereance. Perez Hilton reported that his unnamed sources caught the actress and rumoured boyfriend Ryan Reynolds locked lips last weekend.
Now that her movie “The Other Boleyn” with Natalie Portman and Eric Bana as Henry VIII is already in post-production, here are a few of the behind-the-scene pics.
Scarlett and Nataliescarlett_johansson_natalie_portman1.jpgscarlett_johansson_natalie_portman4.jpg
I didn’t know that Scarlett used to be chummy with Lindsay Lohan. Scarlett hinted in one of her interviews Lindsay’s unprofessionalism, that is, arriving late on the set or cancelling the entire shooting. But real friendships are rare in Hollywood.
Scarlett, however, admitted that she wanted to star alongside Natalie as she admires her talent. During the course of filming, they became friends. Hopefully they still are.
