Scarlett in Barcelona, Day 5

Patricia Clarkson, WoodyAllen and Scarlett

Now that the shooting has begun we are slowly finding out who are the other actors involved in Woody Allen’s film project, working title “Midnight in Barcelona.”

How can I forget Patricia Clarkson, who has been seen with Scarlett on the shooting yesterday, a fine actress whose talents is so immense. Aside from Ms. Clarkson, Rebecca Hall, Kevin Dunn, Pablo Schreiber (Liev’s brother), Carrie Preston, Chris Messina and Abel Folk will keep Scarlett, Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem’s company.

Anyway, I found the timetable (complete with the fan’s comments) of the shooting, courtesy of a curious cineaste. (I assumed the film enthusiast is a he.) In his diary, he found himself entranced with Scarlett and quite understood why Woody is so fascinated with the actress.

Then I saw Scarlett Johansson for the third time in my life. In less than a week. Her hair is blonde and quite impressive. What a feeling to see her so close going inside a black van. She looks so wonderful. I understand Woody Allen wants her to be her muse.

He also mentioned that Woody Allen is without a star attitude. The director didn’t mind fetching his own food from the catering vehicle.

MONDAY JULY 9TH

I saw again Woody Allen and I took some

– 19h (afternoon-evening): big correfoc

I think this may be one of the most
beautiful moments of the film …)

This old house from the 17th century
is not in center of town and I did not
know about its existence. It looks
gorgoeous

No doubt the government of Barcelona is grateful of Woody Allen and Co.’s presence. How about the average citizens? Are they happy that Hollywood is raging their city, which now slowly loses its tradition of practicing siesta because of globalisation?

Hmmmm…

Check out a couple of videos where the people who got interviewed when the crew shot scenes on the beach and at the restaurant were simply amused judging from their faces. (All in Spanish.)

Scarlett’s Spanish movie

Scarlett and Woody in Spain

Like what we have gathered this week, Scarlett has flown to Spain to star in the new Woody Allen’s said to be “love letter” to the European country. If you were in Barcelona right now, you might have a chance to see the actress and the A-list director working on their new project.

Scarlett is Woody’s current flavour of the month. She was in his former films “Scoop” and “Matchpoint.” In the Spanish project, she plays as a tourist in Spain. Hence, images of her holding a camera. Would that be a real working (digital) camera????

According to the news, the shooting will take seven weeks. Aside from Barcelona, other locations will be a one-week stay in the northern Spanish region of Asturias and one day in New York.

Barcelona would be the second European city to feature in a full-length Allen movie.

Scarlett’s film with Woody

Friday, July 6th, 2007

TypicallySpanish.com reported that there is already a name for the director’s impending project. Dubbed “Midnight in Barcelona,” Woody would like to present the Spanish city in his eyes.

According to the site, he only spoke for five minutes in the gardens of a Barcelona hotel. It also said that the director attempted to learn Spanish but he learned nothing as he wasn’t paying attention at all. Therefore it will be a “grand challenge” for him to do the film in a country whose mother tongue isn’t English.

Filming will take seven weeks, in Barcelona, Oviedo and New York and the project has a budget of 12 million €.

Meanwhile Worth1000 via Cityrag presented a Photoshopped work featuring Scarlett with Elvis Presley under its rubric “Impossible Celebrity Couples.” Well, I am not sure if Elvis would have gone to film with the actress. Probably, he would. And the actress, she would perhaps be thrilled.

Aside from Elvis-Scarlett pairing, there’s also the young Bette Davis and George Clooney and Jude Law with Jean Simmons. Check it out.

They. Are. All. Nice.

‘The Other Boleyn’ behind the scene pictures

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

Everyone is still talking about Scarlett’s performance in her recent Coachella appereance. Perez Hilton reported that his unnamed sources caught the actress and rumoured boyfriend Ryan Reynolds locked lips last weekend.
Now that her movie “The Other Boleyn” with Natalie Portman and Eric Bana as Henry VIII is already in post-production, here are a few of the behind-the-scene pics.

I didn’t know that Scarlett used to be chummy with Lindsay Lohan. Scarlett hinted in one of her interviews Lindsay’s unprofessionalism, that is, arriving late on the set or cancelling the entire shooting. But real friendships are rare in Hollywood.
Scarlett, however, admitted that she wanted to star alongside Natalie as she admires her talent. During the course of filming, they became friends. Hopefully they still are.

Blonde or Brunette?

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

Watching the “Nanny Diaries” trailer where Scarlett plays a nanny to a boy from an upper-class family in Manhattan is a fresh air from what she’s doing (or has been done). Her personality seems to have changed too with this comedy. I haven’t read the book but it sure looks fun on the big screen. Finally, there’s the definite month for its release, which is September this year. Just in time for Oscars??? I can’t wait to see Laura Linney, who played her employer from hell.

Not only she is paired with the cutesy Chris Evans, she is also brunette. Now the question is: is she real blonde?
Here’s the movie’s official poster.

Match Point, the abridged version

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

Surfing the fascinating YouTube, I came across Scarlett’s 2005 film “Match Point” in seven minutes! Aside from Scarlett, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Emily Mortimer and Brian Cox were also there. Directed by Woody Allen.
Get to hear Scarlett’s throaty voice, “So who’s my next victim, you?”

Scarlett’s Leading Men: Eric Bana

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

Eric BanaEric Bana is one of those artists the audience takes a notice after a hundred times peeking at his pictures or scenes. Like his fellow character actor James Caviezel, his acting prowess and attitude plus the good looks could make you admire him. But not to the point where you could project him side by side with the mass appeal of Orlando Bloom or the hard yet charming face of Brad Pitt. Hardly as it seems, actors like him need a pivotal role that could spawn him next to the A-list actors.
When asked about his status as a celebrity: “Yes and no. I get it on a human level, in the sense that everyone wants to know a little bit of gossip, everyone likes to hear something about someone. But I’m not that interested in hearing it about people that I know. So I don’t understand the fascination with celebrity. Some events are not as interesting to the public as the media would like them to be, to a degree. But it makes sense. It’s an industry. It’s a business.”
He starred in several films like “Munich,” “Troy” and played the Hulk in Ang Lee’s interpretation of the metamorphosing Marvel hero. But is he going to be the next matinee idol?
Sure, Eric is good-looking and talented yet it is impossible that teenage girls and young women will chase him from one place to another. Maybe because Eric is a family man and he is an Australian and doesn’t care about Hollywood bullshit and all?
Recently Scarlett admitted that she struggled acting with Eric. Her co-actor in the new movie “The Other Boleyn Girl.” She said she couldn’t stop looking at his private parts.
Could it be that the 6-foot-two actor is well-endowed?
Eric plays Henry VIII in the movie and had to wear a codpiece for the part a decorative flap used to cover male genitalia in medieval England. It proved to be too much of a distraction for Scarlett, who plays Mary Boleyn, “We’d be ready to do a scene and I couldn’t look at anything else… I won’t get over that codpiece for a long time. Eric would use it as a tool. He would rest his hands or a cup of coffee on it. People would even lead him around the set by it.” The actress said.
So the next time you see him on the screen, remember the name: Eric Bana.

Behind the Scenes: The Other Boleyn Girl

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

Scarlett in VogueA part of the Vogue interview with Scarlett is her admiration toward young actress Natalie Portman. And how did the two hit it off while filming it in England.

I asked her why she chose to play Mary Boleyn, a little-known historical figure who was briefly Henry VIII’s mistress before her more ambitious sister, Anne, supplanted her and became queen (for a thousand days). “I first became involved because Natalie was doing it,” Johansson said. She and Portman had never worked together before, and Johansson said that even before reading the novel or script, she leaped at the chance to make a film with the young actress whom she admired. “She’s a wonderful actor, just a great scene partner,” Johansson said. “I guess I had never really worked with a young woman my age. She’s so professional. And she’s not pretentious or anything, just a really nice girl. It also helped that she’s from New York.”
Portman was just as impressed by Johansson. “The thing about her is she’s an amazing actress. You look at her and instantly believe you are in the place you are; she makes it immediately real,” Portman said. “She’s so supportive and giving and passionate about her work,” she added. “She’s really direct about everything she wants or feels, whereas I am a little more timid.”
The two young actresses hit it off well enough on set to spend much of their time together after work, including late-night clubbing in London’s Soho. “We were allies and coconspirators,” Portman explained. “It’s so rare that we get to work with actresses our own ages. You can relate at a friend level: We’re at the same places in our lives; we were able to talk about boyfriends and go out dancing.”
