Ryan Reynolds On his Citizenship: Let’s Just Say I’m Legal

The Proposal - Madrid Photocall & Press Conference

Okay, so this is the interview that Butch Francisco, a Filipino entertainment journalist, did with Ryan Reynolds. Enjoy!

On his nude scene: (to a European writer to kept asking him about it) You are so obsessed with sex! Oh Ryan! He wasn’t obsessed with sex! He was obsessed with you being naked! Anyway, he proceeds to say, “While doing that entire sequence, we were actually combining both nudity and stunt. I was worried about naughty bits flying out!”

On his exercise regimen for the movie: I hike only. I do weights only for roles — like the one I did in Wolverine. Hey, I was running the New York marathon before.

On having the title of Sexiest Man in 2008: No, it did not matter at all. Okay, while the title is flattering, I don’t dwell much on that because if you’re the Sexiest Man Alive for 2008, there will be a Sexiest Man Alive for 2009.

On Hugh Jackman being the Sexiest Man in 2009: Oh, he campaigned hard for it (laughs)!

On working with Sandra Bullock: We met through mutual friends. Working together in The Proposal was a dream. We have chemistry even outside of camera range. This was what happened on the first day of rehearsal: We left after 45 minutes because there was no point doing it — we just laughed a lot

On his super-supportive family: In real life, I also get a lot of support from my family and they try to understand my profession — and that isn’t easy for them. I come from a family of cops and they didn’t think they’d have somebody who’d sing and dance in Hollywood.

On his citizenship (he’s Canadian working in the US): I’ll just say I’m legal.

Of Scarlett Johansson, Gywneth Paltrow, and Catfights

Comic-Con 2009 - Day 3 - Iron Man 2 Panel Discussion

Of course, the interview would not be complete without her saying something about Gwyneth Paltrow and their supposed catfight:

On the rumors surrounding her and Gywneth Paltrow: No, nothing could be further from the truth. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about working with Gwyneth. She’s totally out of the loop. She’s very much out of the loop. You know, she’s got a wonderful family she spends a lot of time with, so for her, she’s like, ‘What’s going on? What?’ And, of course, Jon (Favreau, director), who’s like on his Twittering thing–he’s so crazy about any kind of news about anything–is like, ‘You haven’t heard? You haven’t heard?’ He comes on set and I’m like, ‘Oh, God,’ you know. Every time I would say—I would say to Gwyneth–you know she would say, ‘Oh, yeah, that was on the seventh,’ and I would say, ‘Are you sure that wasn’t on the sixth?’ And, (Jon) would go, ‘Another cat fight! It’s breaking out!’”

On Gywneth’s rumored snubbing of Comic-Con: Believe me, she’s worthy of plenty of attention and I know that the fans love her. And, they’re going to love to see her in this movie because her character really is able to, kind of, comes into her own. And, I know that she would love to be here, as well, but she’s with her family.

So there you go! They’re not fighting and everything’s going well with the both of them. But considering that both of them are quite the professionals, I guess that this is just all a misunderstanding for their parts. Let’s give them peace.

Scarlett Johansson and the Black Widow in Iron Man 2

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Iron Man 2 Panel at The San Diego Comic Con in CA

This is the second installment of Scarlett Johansson’s interview for the Iron Man 2 movie. Here, she talks about her character more, and the pressures that come in signing on for a multi-picture movie (What?! This is a multi-picture role? I didn’t know that!):

On her role and its relationship with the other characters: “There are sort of two sides to my character, she’s a bit of a shape-shifter, I suppose. There’s a side of the character that’s kind of demur and sort of covert, and, um, kind of…I wouldn’t say that she’s submissive, but she’s kind of blending into sort of Stark Industries of some kind. And, then the other part of the character, which is a really aggressive and bad ass character that is sure of herself and is going to kick the shit out of you if you get in her way. That’s about as much as I can tell you.”

On the Black Widow’s character: Well, I mean, like I said, the character remains quite mysterious in this film. All we kind of—you know, she’s definitely—I mean, this movie is not about, like, revealing the Black Widow identity. Hopefully, if the character continues on, whether that be through Avengers or something like that we’ll be able to explore more of her past. Obviously, you know, the film is present day, so to bring in that whole Communist aspect of the character might be a little bit dated.

On singing on for a multi-picture deal and its pressures: We have a vested interest in our characters, as well. I mean, I didn’t go into this going, ‘Oh, this is the last I ever want to see of this character.’ I want—I would love to see the character come back and, sort of, as I was saying, kind of reveal more about herself. I loved making the film. I loved working with Jon (Favreau). I loved working with Robert (Downey Jr.). And, so, you know, for me, as an actor, we kind of have a beginning, middle and end, and a one-and-a-half or two-hour segment or whatever, and we’re done with it. So, for me to be able to bring something like this back and kind of develop the character is exciting and something we don’t normally get to do as actors.

Scarlett Johansson and her Black Widow Catsuit

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Comic-Con 2009 - Day 3 - Iron Man 2 Panel Discussion

Brent Specher of SDCC got a lucky chance to sit down with the Black Widow herself! Scarlett Johansson discusses her role as Black Widow and the black castuit costume that had a lot of men, boys, and even women, anticipating the movie. Read on and enjoy!

On her skin-tight superhero catsuit: I had a bit of a freak-out moment. Well, it was more seeing the–’cause the costume took a while to build it, obviously, but I saw some of the sketches and I knew what to expect because I had obviously seen the kind of later incarnation of the character. I knew that it was going to be some kind of cat suit of some kind. So, I had a freak-out moment, but that only lasted about, you know, half-a-day and I was like, ‘Suck it up, you gotta just do it,’ so I never turned back after that. I just went, like, full force. – Oh Scarlett, with a body like that, don’t freak out!

On her worries about the costume affecting her performance: But, as far as the action sequences go, and how the costume relates to that–one thing that’s obviously important to my character is that the costume moves, the character is, you know, an expert of hand-to-hand combat, she’s a mixed martial artist, she comes from a dance background, there’s some gymnastics thrown in–it’s kind of like everything all thrown into one big, sort of, fighting machine. So, a big part of me was like, “Can I move in this, can I run in it?”

ScarJo and Natalie’s Movie Roles

58th Berlinale Film Festival - The Other Boleyn Girl Photocall

I’ve noticed that both Scarlett and Natalie choose roles that essentially show out a strong side of women. Think, Natalie Portman’s Star Wars’s Queen Amidala, V for Vendetta’s Evey, Cold Mountain’s Sara and Scarlett Johansson’s Match Point’s Nola Rice, The Island’s Jordan Two Delta, and A Good Woman’s Meg Windermere.

On choosing strong female roles:

Natalie: I want to do things that are real people. Women can be weak or vulnerable or strong—they can be not very smart, or brilliant. There’s not one kind of woman out there, and I think it’s important to portray a wide variety. I have recently been getting frustrated—I don’t know if you have this experience, [Scarlett], since we probably read the same variety of what’s out there. The number of roles for strippers or prostitutes, or the opposite, like ‘She’s the moral center of the film. She’s the pure one. She’s the one who makes the man realize who he should be.’ That’s sort to the dichotomy that exists so strongly. It’s the virgin/whore thing in evidence, to the greatest extent. That’s really been bothering me. To find a character who’s complicated like the women in this film is very, very exciting. Also, I love comedies, so much. Any time I read a comedy it’s like the girl is in fashion, she’s really into clothes, she just wants to get married. Those are not values that I care to jump the bandwagon on. I would love to do a comedy, I would love to do a romantic comedy. You don’t find any where the woman has, like, a real job. Joining the “All I care about is fashion and boys,” that’s not what I am. It is frustrating.

Scarlett: I absolutely agree with Natalie. I found strengths in every character that I’ve played. Even if it is a vulnerable person or someone who’s easily manipulated, there are strengths to every personality. Even if I wasn’t looking for a girl power kind of role, maintaining integrity in a character is a positive thing for women to see. It’s inspiring for women of all ages.

Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman’s Relationship

Saturday, July 11th, 2009

58th Berlinale Film Festival - The Other Boleyn Girl Photocall

Here, they talk about working with each other and having a certain respect for each other’s work. Which is really rare, since you don’t get to see peer actors and actresses respecting each other a whole lot in Hollywood. They also give us tidbits on what it’s like to work with the hunky actor, Eric Bana, of The Hulk and Troy fame.

Scarlett Johansson On Her Choices of TV Shows and Movies

Saturday, July 11th, 2009

Cinema And Television Benevolent Fund Royal Premiere - Afterparty

I must admit, that the only Boleyn that I knew of was Anne Boleyn because she got beheaded and all of that. But this movie really did open my eyes to the extent of the damage she did to England, not withstanding the throne and the Catholic church’s estrangement, due to Henry’s divorce for her.

Anyway, this segment talks of their choice in movies and television shows and Spanish actress, Ana Torent. Enjoy!

Scarlett Johansson’s The Other Boleyn Girl

Saturday, July 11th, 2009

Cinema And Television Benevolent Fund Royal Premiere - Afterparty

Alright, a little culture lesson here. The Other Boleyn Girl is the story of two sisters who are fighting for the affections of Henry VIII, the King of England. Anne, played by Natalie Portman, convinces the king to divorce the current queen to marry her instead. However, her troubles do not pay off. And Mary, played by Scarlett Johansson, is the king’s mistress, even before he knew about Anne. Her ending is better than her sister’s since she remarried and lived a peaceful life.

Okay then, off to the continuation of the interview:

On the potential audience of the movie:

Scarlett: I remember passing very briefly through this period of time in my own world history class. Unless you’re studying or majoring in European history or particularly interested in these biographies, it’s not something that as Americans much of the people know. I remember divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived—that’s what I learned about Henry VIII. It was never fully explained, the rough edges of history. Hopefully with Natalie and I both involved in the project it will entice younger generations—maybe it will spark their interest in the subject. Because it is a fascinating time in history, and as they say, history repeats itself.

On Scarlett’s involvement in the movie:

Scarlett: A major part of why I joined the project, is because Natalie was involved. I’ve been a huge fan of Natalie’s for a long time, and I’ve always loved her choices and her performances. I’d never had the opportunity to work on such an even playing field with my peer. It was a great opportunity for both of us I think.

Natalie: I read the script and loved it and came on as Anne. I said I only want to do it if Scarlett does it. I had watched her for so long, since we were kids, and she’s so true always, and so good. Like Scarlett was saying, you just never get the chance to work with someone your own age that you so admire. It was such a great, great chance.

A Look Back: The Other Boleyn Girl Interview

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

other boleyn girl

When W Magazine suggested that it was hard to find a guy who would have a crush on both Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman, I uess they just did not know what they are talking about. From my standpoint, I guess that every guy as a crush on both of them, though they come off as two very different young ladies.

But I guess not because since filming The Other Boleyn Girl, the two have remained a close friendship. Let’s take a look at the interview they gave just before the showing of the movie:

About the costumes:

Scarlett: Of course as an actor, anything that will help you get into character is helpful. As modern women we’re used to being able to move freely, not think about what we’re wearing. These costumes—it not only is uncomfortable to wear, it affects how people move around you. It affects your intimacy and all these things. It’s a constant reminder of the restrictions that were placed on women of this time.

Natalie: It definitely helped. The costumes are so bold and sort of daring, it definitely matched who [Anne Boleyn] was as a woman too. That was definitely helpful. [As for eating in the costumes], I remember Scarlett warning me, she was like, “I had a bagel at lunch. Big mistake.” You take your costume off for lunch at break, and you forget – ”

Scarlett: And then you pour yourself back in. It’s definitely more uncomfortable after lunch. It’s gotta go somewhere, and it’s not going in the middle.

On riding sidesaddle:

SJ: I was riding astride. My riding was faster. A lot of the riding was rushing from Rochefort back to the castle. I was wearing this huge coat across the horse. I could ride sidesaddle, but when I was riding you couldn’t see any difference at all.

NP: That’s actually something I didn’t realize that I learned on the movie, that sidesaddle came after. Usually women were riding astride, and the sidesaddle was a new invention.

A Look Back: Scarlett Johnsson in Lost In Translation, part 2

For those of you who are wondering why there were three questions on karaoke in the last article, it’s because karaoke is very big in Japan. Well, so much for that trivia, here’s the next part of Scarlett Johansson’s interview in the Sofia Coppola film:

On how Director Coppola made her agree to wear only underwear for a part in the film:
I’d been eating so much Udon, I just thought, “Oh my God, I’m so not going to look decent in these underwear.” I really didn’t want to wear those underwear because I was so bloated from eating all of this Udon all of the time. She was like, “Well you know, it’d be nice if you could wear these underwear,” because that was what was written in the script. And she was like, “But I understand if you’re uncomfortable.” She said, “Why don’t I try these on for you? You could see how they look. Just see how they look and if you don’t want to do it, then of course, you don’t have to.” I was like, “Alright, that’s a pretty good deal.” And of course, Sofia is lanky and skinny, [with a] very sort of elegant body and so she looked fantastic in the underwear. That’s how she got me to wear them.

On playing a woman five years older than her age: I don’t know. I guess I didn’t really think about it that much. The only time that I was really aware of it was when I was putting on my wedding band. Other than that, you think about it and it’s like, “Five years here, five years there. No big deal.” The only prep that I really did was with Giovanni. We did two days of rehearsal just so that you can get a feel of some kind of marriage between us, so that wew weren’t just meeting for the first time and going, “Lets get into bed now,” and that kind of thing. [To also capture] that sort of dynamic that comes with marriage where you love the person and at that time, you’re in different places.

Ryan Reynolds Shirtless for EW

Monday, June 29th, 2009

ryan-reynolds-shirtless-entertainment-weekly-cover-700px

Ryan Reynolds has really gotten popular, ever since the release of Wolverine, and now, his new romantic comedy with Sandra Bullock, The Proposal.

For those of you who do not know, Ryan is in four (read that, four) Entertainment Weekly covers, and two of them show him sans his shirt. Hmmmm, I think that Ryan’s trying to make a few body temperatures heat up more this summer.

Anyways, regarding his shirtless cover shoot, he joked with David Letterman that he had just one cocktail, and then somehow he found himself missing his shirt. Typical Ryan Reynolds wit and humor.

Recently, he’s being looked at as a “sex symbol” to which Ryan says is “embarrassing.”

In an interview for EW when asked about what he feels being labeled as a “sex symbol”, he says that, “I think I fear more than anything just sounding like a complete a-hole when I have to answer that question. If you take any of that seriously, you need to be euthanized, ASAP.”

The Canadian actor, tops EW’s must-list as a leading man who is, “simply too smart and self-aware to be so good-looking.”

I think that one more factor on why Ryan is being seen as a sex god of some kind is because of the fact that he is married to the very sexy and beautiful actress, Scarlett Johansson, a relationship he is tightlipped about in the press other than to call it “fantastic.”

Anyway, his movie with Sandra Bullock, The Proposal premiered at #1 at the box office Friday, knocking The Hangover off its perch and handily besting the poorly-reviewed Jack Black and Michael Cera comedy Year One. Which in itself is pretty impressive for a “chick flick” up against two “dude flicks”.

Ryan Reynolds on Mens Health

Dear, dear Ryan Reynolds. How handsome and sexy you are. No wonder Scarlett Johansson fell for you! Some people say that the actor’s luck in movie roles started to turn when he married the actress. Come on, the very name of “Scarlett Johansson” is a pull unto itself. But (there’s a big BUT), it should also be considered that Ryan is a good actor to begin with! Oh alright, his roles before Wolverine are relatively not-so-popular, but hey! The guy has no regrets, as you can see in the previous section of the interview.

So, without further ado, I bring you the last part of Ryan Reynolds’s New York interview:

Ryan on his role as Deadpool: “I’ve always liked the character—I felt like he was a real misfit, like he was this great mixture of the Phantom of the Opera meets Commando,” says Reynolds, who co-stars with Hugh Jackman and Liev Schreiber.

On Men’s Health’s “Lose Your Gut” issue, where he had to pose shirtless: “I thought, What the hell?” says Reynolds. “It was dipping my toe in something that made me deeply uncomfortable, and then trying not to care about it. But the thing is, that picture never went away. My breasts were in my face every five seconds, ’cause people wanted me to sign it.”

On being married to Hollywood sweetheart, Scarlett Johansson: “Sure, you can ask me about it,” he says, “and yes, I’m going to evade your questions.” (C’mon! did you honestly think that he was going to give a straight answer? The half of the couple who evaded the notorious paps and got married in secret?!)

On other celebrities: “We know so much about every actor on planet Earth. We know how they like to slice their avocado, what they named their baby. When I’m watching them save the world in a movie, I don’t want to be thinking about their baby’s name.”

On his future kids: “I will now go on record to say I’m not going to even name my kid.” (I wonder what Scarlett’s reaction would be to that? Hmmm…maybe he’s not naming the kid, but ScarJo will! Nice thinking Ryan!)

Hunk Ryan Reynolds

Ryan Reynolds, again.

Ah. You ever wonder why there are so many interviews cropping up when there’s a new movie about to premiere? Well, Wolverine is not an exception, as the cast has been interviewed, left, right, and center by the dauntless reporters. Here’s yet another interview of Ryan Reynolds (you know, bombshell Scarlett Johansson’s hubbie), and this time by New York’s Emma Rosenblum.

This time, I’m taking the summarized approach. Ryan’s answers are in quotes, while the rest of the words not found in quotation marks are the reporters’ (my comments are in ( ), obviously). Enjoy the first part of the interview, guys and gals!

Scarlett Johansson: The Amazon!

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

scarlett

Meet the new action star: Scarlett Johansson! She is all set to become an Amazon gladiatrix for her new movie, The Amazon Warrior, which is set in the year 200 B.C. She indulges in an interview with the Daily Telegraph about her newly dark hair, her legs, and her gladiatrix role.

On her deviation from blonde bombshell: “For a long time I’ve had really white-blonde hair. I’m naturally blonde – my dad’s Danish – and I was playing up to it. I wanted to act out all those famous blonde icons – Lauren Bacall, Grace Kelly, Marilyn Monroe… Ever since I started on the red carpet, my idea of glamour was the Golden Age of Hollywood. I like to be feminine. Give the people what they want. The hair, the make-up, the gown, the diamonds. That, to me, is glamour.”

“ [My hair is] more a dark red. I was bored one day. It was raining. I was with a hairdresser friend and just decided to color my hair. We experimented with a few shades until we got the right one. I like it.”

On her fashion inspiration and her legs
: “I guess Rita Hayworth or Ava Gardner. Most probably Rita Hayworth. Oh, those legs of hers. My legs? They’re not bad. They get me places.”

On her role in ‘The Amazon Warrior
: “I think I’m supposed to be a gladiatrix. These film guys are crazy about gladiatrixes. But do I fit into the Amazon mold? I’m a Danish/Jewish girl from New York. I’ve done weapons-training. I’ve fired all kinds of guns: 9mm semi-automatics, machine-guns, shotguns. I’ve jumped off a 60ft building. I learned to ride for ‘The Horse Whisperer.’ But I’ve never done a full-on action role.”

“I guess I’m still waiting for my Cirque du Soleil moment. It would be fun.”

Scarlett Says No to Dieting and Hitting the Gym

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

scarbreasts1

In a time when Hollywood seems to be obsessing on “weight issues,” sexy actress, Scarlett Johansson has also stepped out to give people a piece of her mind.

InTouch magazine cornered the recent blonde-turned-brunette, during one of her red carpet appearance for promotion of her newest movie, He’s Just Not That Into You. The blonde bombshell was praised by the interviewer as being “refreshing” and complimented the fact that she doesn’t “subscribe to the scary-skinny craze in Hollywood.”

To that, ScarJo replied, “That’s the biggest nonsense ever! Count me out. I don’t understand what’s supposed to be sexy there. And besides, I like to eat too much.”

“I have never been on a diet in my whole life,” she added.

Oh! Since she’s not dieting and she “likes to eat too much,” does she battle the excess carbs by hitting the gym? Well, apparently, no. She doesn’t.

“I’ve seen gyms only from the outside. I feel very comfortable with my body,” the 24-year old actress revealed.

Wow! A figure like that, and she doesn’t do a single thing to keep it that way. And I guess that her statement is a good reminder to all the girls and women out there who obsess over their weight, and start to undergo crazy dieting schemes and overt exercise regimes. Scarlett is right, we females do need to be comfortable in our own skin, in whatever size we come in. But, a watching what we eat and getting proper exercise is good for the body and health also, so I’m not totally against dieting and exercising, as long as it’s done in moderation, then there shouldn’t be any problem. Right?
