It is now officially announced that Scarlett will be in another historical film portraying one of the best-known Scottish monarchs, Mary Queen of Scots.

International Herald Tribune reported that “the deal was announced Thursday by production company Relativity Media at the Cannes Film Festival.”

It will be directed by James Curran of “The Painted Veil” fame and a screenplay by Jimmy McGovern of the UK TV crime drama “Cracker.”

The producers said the film would see Mary “battle political enemies, scheming allies, and affairs of the heart in her quest to reunite the warring tribes of her native Scotland.”

One of the producers is Scarlett’s mom, Melanie. The story of the ill-fated Mary was so colourful, chaotic and tragic that the actress will find lots of room to make it more challenging.

Would she hire a speech and language coach to prepare her to speak with Scottish accent? Mel Gibson did just that. Some people found his Scottish accent in “Braveheart” awkward and artificial. In the end, he won several accolades for the role.

The Roman Catholic Mary Stuart who ruled Scotland from 1542 to 1567 was married three times. At the age of 5 was bethroted to the French Dauphin, Francois, making her as one of the daughters-in-law of the cunning Catherine de Medici.

Mary wasn’t lucky in love. Either her consort was childish or hostile. But both were very much into her throne and obtaining power. It was said that she masterminded the murder of her second husband. Her third husband even kidnapped her for forced marriage.

She was born between the warring factions in Scotland and reigned at the time of religious wars. Though many people believed that she was the rightful queen of England, her shaky relationship with her Protestant cousin, Elizabeth I, paved the way for her downfall. Accused of treason, “Mary was implicated in several plots to assassinate Elizabeth, raise the Catholic North of England, and put herself on the throne, possibly with French or Spanish help. The major plot for the political takeover was the Babington Plot, but some of Mary’s supporters believed it and other plots to be either fictitious or undertaken without Mary’s knowledge.” Elizabeth, without hearing any of it, allowed Mary to be beheaded at the age of 42.

I am excited to see who would be the other actors beside Scarlett.

Do things really start to heat up between Scarlett and her current flavour of the moment Ryan Reynolds?
Until now I can’t picture that the two are really an item.
According to People, the two were seen “back in action” Monday night, enjoying the show of indie rock band The Damnwells at the Troubadour in West Hollywood.
They were seen arriving separately and greeting each other “with a hug and a kiss on the lips.”

“In the foyer they were talking and had their hands all over each other,” says the source. “He kissed her a couple more times in the club. He was totally sweet. She went to the restroom and he went to check up on her.”
The pair watched the show with the rest of the crowd, although the witness says fellow concertgoers recognized them: “You can’t help but recognize him because he’s tall. She had a hat on and was so tiny.”
After the show, they hung out at the club for a while before they called it a night – after Reynolds poked his head outside to check for paparazzi–and left, hand in hand.

Ryan is filming “Fireflies in the Garden” with Julia Roberts and Willem Defoe. While Scarlett confessed to People that she prefers a man with strong self-confidence regardless of his physical appearance.
“One thing that I look for that isn’t physical is a healthy confidence. If somebody is confident in a way that you would admire - being strong, funny–that can make someone you might not be initially attracted to more attractive.”
Hmm, seems like Ryan got what it takes to be her man if it is true that the couple is getting cosier each day.
They have been reportedly dating early in March. The actor was single for more than half a year after he broke off his engagement with singer Alanis Morissette. Scarlett insisted that she is couple-less via a Glamour article last month.
The duo was seen first cuddling during Easter and then in New York City where they spent a busy weekend “getting close at the Manhattan restaurant Odeon.”
One witnessed quipped, “They were in a good mood.”

Rumours are circulating that Scarlett was spotted crying on Stella McCartney’s shoulders during the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s gala, a tribute to Belle epoque French designer Paul Poiret, last week.

A source told the New York Daily News newspaper: “She was crying to Stella - not hysterical, confused. It was about 10.30 pm, after Jennifer Hudson performed. They walked back from the bathroom together.” Source

However, the reason is unknown. Witnesses said that Scarlett and Stella chatted until the latter was ready to dry her eyes and rejoin the party. Though the actress’ ex, Josh Hartnett, was also there, I don’t think he caused her sadness. Josh is now enjoying the company of Spanish actress Penelope Cruz.
Stella designed the actress’ mini cocktail dress on top of a black bolero. Scarlett was seen chummy with supermodel Amber Valletta.

Contrary to earlier reports, Scarlett Fan.com was informed by the actress’ publicist that Scarlett isn’t going to be in Roman Polanski’s filming of Pompeii, based on the best-selling novel with the same name written by Robert Harris. The story will “revolve around events that took place just prior to the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in A.D. 79.which casts Orlando Bloom,” Cinematical said. Mr. Bloom as we all know is not at all stranger to historical films and so is Scarlett.
However, due to conflict of skeds, both actors though heavily considered, cannot join the project. Scarlett’s shooting of “Mary Queen of Scots” has been postponed. Instead she is gonna be in Barcelona and Asturias in July to join Woody Allen for his “Spanish Project.”
And next month she is due to record her long-waited album.

Former “Baywatch” babe Pamela Anderson gave Scarlett an advice: Go pose for Playboy, girly!
I am not sure what prompted her to say it but I guess she is curious how does the most voted woman fare when it comes to sexy body looks. According to OK magazine, she admitted that she would like to see Scarlett shed her clothes for Hugh Hefner’s magazine.

“Scarlett Johansson would definitely be my number one choice. But I doubt she would agree to do it. On the other hand it’s kind of cool to be on the cover of Playboy, but on the other hand, for many actresses, it’s not at all.”

It might hold true to American-based stars but I know that in Europe, say in Germany and Austria, some actresses don’t have any qualms posing nude for Playboy. But knowing that Scarlett already included a no-nudity clause for movies, unless acting without clothes is necessary for the movie, Pam would just be disappointed.
The busty Baywatch star has posed for the magazine a record of 12 times. She believes that Scarlett has what it takes to be Playboy head honcho’s latest golden girl.

After garnering mixed reactions during the first day of Coachella Festival on April 27, Scarlett ended this week hosting a gala with Daniel Lalonde, the president and CEO of Louis Vuitton North America.
She was also spotted hobnobbing with the 27-year-old Antoine Arnault, son of LVMH chairman Bernard Arnault, who is also a member of the luxury giant’s board and the director of communications, in charge of advertising, books and the Louis Vuitton Cup, plus coordination of LV’s website.
Aside from Scarlett and the LV bigwigs, other stars who came in to celebrate LV’s new “LoVe” collection at the Fifth Avenue store in New York included REM’s Michael Stipe, Alex Kingston, Mya, among others.
She was caught wearing a metallic pink and bluish Louis Vuitton corset-inspired top and pleaded skirt combining them with silver pumps, red-orange earrings and ring and a barrette with the same colour that parted her platinum blonde hair on the right completing her look.
If you can still remember the famous brand chose Scarlett to carry its products and has been assigned to be LV’s official face ever since last year.
No wonder that the actress really took it to heart. The 22-year-old actress revealed: “If you go to a glamorous event, you should look glamorous.”
The Thursday’s gala is “to give a boost to the Louis Vuitton Love Party in aid of Oxfam.” The actress has become increasingly involved with the charity. Earlier this year she took advantage of a break from making movies to visit India and Sri Lanka with the organisation to meet tsunami survivors and see for herself what conditions were like.
Though she might look having a break, Hello said that she is due back in front of the cameras soon with director Woody Allen to film his next big screen offering, “Midnight In Barcelona,” this summer.

Okay, okay, so now that FHM, a soft-porn magazine for men of course, has unveiled its full list, unless you buy the issue, Scarlett ranks No. 4. Her rumoured rival, Jessica Biel, lands on No. 24.
The males voted another Jessica, that’s Jessica Alba, to be the magazine’s sexiest woman for this year. Reason: For “Making The Bikini Seem That Bit More Magical.”

Scanning the press releases/critiques on Scarlett’s performance at Coachella Day One, it is funny to note that everyone really has his own taste/opinion.
According to A&E Interactive, it is clear that the writer wasn’t impressed and therefore disappointed of the brouhaha surrounding the news.

Let’s get this out of the way: As widely predicted, Scarlett Johansson joined the Jesus & Mary Chain onstage Friday night at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival. But if that’s what you were waiting around for, you were probably disappointed.
The young actress came out wearing a paisley minidress and a straw hat toward the end of the legendary shoegazer band’s set, its first in eight years, to stand at center stage beside Jim Reid. Her job? To repeatedly sing the title line in “Just Like Honey,” a song recorded when she was an infant. Johansson looked a bit nervous and left the stage immediately upon finishing the song; she said nothing to the crowd. As to her vocal abilities, she didn’t do anything that anyone else couldn’t do. She may be a capable singer, but this performance didn’t prove anything.

Stereogum, however, commented that the actress can sing. Even if it’s only the chorus of the female part, “Jussstt like honeeyyy….”

Scarlett came out without a word, and left with Jim Reid’s asking the crowd, “Wasn’t that nice?” And honestly, it was; after a full set of classics and a newbie, The J&MC ended their set with “Reverence” and left the desert-set crowd reeling. (To answer: Yes, ScarJo can sing.)

It is true that the song became popular when Scarlett was a baby and that her voice which compared to the original female voice was not as ethereal as hers.
The Jesus and Mary Chain might have noticed the actress after the success of “Lost in Translation” wherein their song was rediscovered by the hipsters of today. It must have influenced their decision to invite her on their comeback tour. For one, she is hot. Lastly, she intends to broaden her skills by singing.
Watching the video from YouTube, I could say that the actress was probably nervous facing the music fans. But she probably had fun doing it. She didn’t say nothing but she waved to the crowd.
I just wonder what was the comment of the legendary grandpops of shoegazer?

The Jesus and Mary Chain sings with Scarlett Johansson

Lucky Californians. First off, they got a dose of the Scottish shoegazer grandpops Jesus and Mary Chain’s return. And then there was Scarlett proving her singing skills.
The rumour was indeed true. She might not be on the band’s first comeback gig but she was really at the Coachella.
According to Uncut, the actress showed up onstage with the reunited Jesus and Mary Chain on their warm-up gig on April 26 singing “Sometimes Always” onstage in Pomona, California. But Starpulse debunked that there was no Scarlett but instead a giant drag singer Annie Hardy who was with the band’s first comeback show.
However, the day after the band’s warm-up gig, Jim Reid and co. this time was joined by the actress taking the main stage of the Coachella music festival on Friday.
Singing vocals on the track “Just Like Honey,” the actress was caught sporting a ’60s psychedelic mini dress, a straw hat smacked in red high heels. Access Hollywood said that “Scarlett joined the band on stage three-quarters of the way through their set.”
According to NME, Jim was heard telling the crowd: “This is fucking unreal.”

The band took the stage just after the sun had set over the mountainous California desert. Dressed all in black, they tore through classics including ‘Head On’ and ‘Some Candy Talking’ as well as a new song.
“Are you having fun?” he asked. When the crowd responded positively he quipped, “Well let’s see what we can do about that!”
This didn’t stop the audience from dancing and cheering throughout their hour-long set.
Just when The Jesus And Mary Chain appeared to be winding things down, Lost In Translation actress Johansson took the stage dressed in a colourful paisley mini-dress. Without saying a word, she joined Reid on vocals for the chorus of ‘Just Like Honey’.
“Wasn’t that nice?” Reid asked after they finished their duet and Johansson left the stage.
The band then launched into their final song, ‘Reverence’, before wrapping things up.

Jim did not introduce the actress to the screaming crowd but hugged her at the end of the song.
Aside from Scarlett, other celebrities who were spotted in the crowd are Coachella regulars Danny DeVito, Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz, even wild child Lindsay Lohan and Adam Brody from “OC California.”

She is having a love-hate relationship with the media. First, there are the clever pronouncements she uttered in every interview and how the press love it. Then the hordes of paparazzi who want to snap a piece of her and how she totally hates it, to the point of writing in bold letters that the photographers are “harassing her” posted on her handmade placard in 2006.
Once again, TMZ is deriding her lack of amour and sense of humour to sly photographers who want to point their cameras at her.

The paparazzi took aim at Scarlett Johansson this weekend — with one cameraman screaming “bitch!” at her as she flew past.
Photogs went wild trying to get a shot of Johansson heading into an SNL afterparty at McCormick & Schmick’s late Saturday night in New York. When the stacked starlet tried to brush by the crowd, one cameraman started shouting “don’t be a bitch! Bitch! Bitch!” Yeah, that’ll get her to strike a pose.

Way back in high school doing a dressing-up drama where I and my orgmates played “beauty contestant uglies,” a friend overheard the boys at the back who quipped, “Geez, what a sight for these pretty girls!” Hell, it was flattering but it could be a lot of fun for someone who is an actress and has made her name through countless lists of beauty/sexy ranking and magazine covers.

Just for laughs, Scarlett played down her physical appearance by dressing up as an ugly alien during last Saturday’s episode of “Saturday Night Live.” She appeared as a balding alien living in a comedienne’s stomach on US television.

The actress hosted the satirical show when she came out to play a “quatto” who had taken over cast regular Maya Rudolph’s stomach in one sketch.
She ended the hilarious skit by tongue kissing a fellow quatto, played by comedian Andy Samberg, while human guests at a party threw up.

According to the New York Post, Scarlett hopes to portray Betty Grable, an American dancer, singer, and actress from the ’30s till ’50s, in the movie.
A source told a US newspaper: “She wants the role. Scarlett just knows she wants to play the part. With Betty Grable’s life set in the ’40s, there wouldn’t be a heavy accent on nudity, which is something Scarlett does not want to do. Not that there’s necessarily at this precise moment a script already written, greenlighted and ready to go about bandleader trumpet player Harry James’ movie star wife. On the other hand, she might play Nellie Forbush of the famed “South Pacific.” Rumour has it that after declaring her love for the musical during an interview, the New York Post reported that Scarlett was in talks to play US Navy nurse Nellie, which is scheduled to open in January 2008 at the Lincoln Center.

In an interview with the latest UK edition of Glamour magazine, Johansson admits she’s a huge fan of the Rodgers And Hammerstein show, but she has a problem with the heroine’s surname, which shares a similarity to Us President George W. Bush.

Her concerns might not have anything to do with her lineage but more on the state of the world today. The actress is part Jewish through her mother-side. Scarlett’s mom, Melanie Sloan, is also her manager. Scarlett’s Dad, by the way, is Danish. In fact, Scarlett carries two passports though admits that she cannot speak her father’s native language. Her parents got divorced when she was 13. It was during this time when her breakthrough “The Horse Whisperer” with Robert Redford and Kristin Scott Thomas became such a big hit.

Aside from the young actress she will join Emmy winner Shia LaBeouf, who makes his SNL debut. Touted as one of the most sought-after young actors working today, Shia stars in the upcoming thriller “Disturbia.”
Avril Lavigne will be there too.
Joining Scarlett on the show is Bjork. This is the singer’s second appearance on “SNL,” performing selections from her soon-to-be released sixth CD “Volta.”
