Scarlett Johansson’s Film is “Unwatchable”?

Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson may be much raved-about for her acting skills, but her directorial efforts seem to have fallen short of the standards set by the powers-that-be behind the upcoming anthology, New York, I Love You.
The 24-year old, best known for her great acting performances in Lost in Translation and Horse Whisperer, directed a short indie for the said anthology, starring Kevin Bacon. The entire film was shot in black and white, somewhat like the films of old.
However, various internet rumors came out that the film was “unwatchable” and that it was cut from the anthology because it was simply horrid. The film, however, will be shown in the DVD release as a special feature and will be released ahead to act as an appetizer for the anthology.
Tthe film’s producer, Emmanuel Benbihy hurriedly came to the actress’s defense and explained that the film’s exclusion wasn’t because of the film itself or even Scarlett’s directing. It simply did not fit with the other films’ concepts and the black and white footage did not really go together with that of the other films.
So it wasn’t Scarlett’s lack of directorial prowess! It’s just that her black-and-white film about an obsessive-compulsive man (Kevin Bacon) who only finds peace and satisfaction when he comes to Coney Island and buys a hot dog, “did not specifically involve an interpersonal relationship, and it was conceptualized to be filmed in black and white - both of which were extreme departures from the other films,” as pointed out by the producer.
The anthology was inspired by Paris, je t’aime (2007) and features twelve short films by an international crew of filmmakers, including Fatih Akin, Yvan Attal, Mina Nair, Joshua Marston, and actress Natalie Portman.
